This is my second post from the home improvement series.

Nupie and I had wanted a nameplate on our main door for sometime. I had promised him I?ll make one by myself and I finally completed it last month.

There are some really brilliant and unique looking nameplates you can buy for yourself from some of the genius minds at Etsy. It is from there that I got inspired to make one of my own.

We wanted a very simple nameplate with nothing fancy on it. I wanted to make something in blue and white combination to go with my home d?cor.. so here is what I came up with!

I bought a plank of wood from a craft shop. There were so many different shapes available that I wasted almost an hour deciding on what shape I wanted to go for. So yes, I finally decided to narrow down to the oval one. I then went ahead and coated the wood with blue acrylic paint. I had to put around 2-3 coats of paint to get the desired look! Writing the name was the best yet the difficult part! I wrote the letters freehand on a piece of white rubber foam and then cut it carefully with the help of a scissor and an x-acto knife. This was when I wished I had a Silhouette Cameo. I would have definitely got a precise and a perfect cut with that. hehe.. But not sure if does cut through rubber foam.. Does it?

Since I wanted a matt finish I left the nameplate at that.. but if you want a glossy look then I?d suggest you spray some gloss paint after you finish working on it.

So yea.. that?s how it looks on our main door! I used Scotch?s double sided strong adhesive squares to stick it on to the door instead of nailing it

I hope this inspires you to make a name plate of your own. This also makes a good personalized gift for a friend or welcoming a new baby. You can make it more fun by adding some elements on it. Honestly, I was tempted to add a butterfly somewhere on it but Nupie was sooo dead against it. hmph! (One of the cons of living with a guy) *winks*

Thank you for dropping by and for all your inspiring comments. It only motivates me to blog and craft more often!

Until next time.
